Chroma: A Spectacular Musical FPS

Chroma is a Greek word meaning color often the term used to measure the purity of color. What goes better with color? Music that’s what and that is exactly what the game developers over at Harmonix and Hidden Path Entertainment, who also made games such as Counter Strike and Defense Grid, are combining to make this one of a kind game. It is classified as a musical FPS. Players will be running and gunning like any other FPS except there is a steady stream of music in the background in which players will get bonuses for shooting with the rhythm. There are 4 classes: Assault is your standard FPS class equipt with an SMG and grenade launcher, the tank is a slow moving soldier armed with a devastating rocket launcher that if shot on the correct beat will deal large amounts of damage, the engineer who is equipt with dual pistols that you must shoot in sequence with rock band style notes on the screen, and finally the sneak class armed with a sniper rifle that if shot on a certain beat will result in a one-hit-kill. You may also customize each class and it’s corresponding song to match your play style.

As of right now the game is in pre-alpha and unfortunately for console players only announced for PC. Do not worry however because the studios are not ruling out the possibility of a console version. I myself think this would be beautiful on next-gen hardware and even could incorporate the PS4 controller’s light bar.   Since it is in such an early development we really have no other information on pricing or release dates beside the announcement of a public beta “later this year” and the screenshot shown at the top of this post.
